Большой вклад в эти достижения привнесло применение лучевой терапии (ЛТ) в составе комплексного лечения таких заболеваний как медуллобластомы (краниоспинальное облучение (КСО)), лимфома Ходжкина (локальное облучение). Следует отметить, что применение комплексного подхода позволило значительно улучшить выживаемость и прогноз у этих больных, однако столь агрессивная тактика ведет впоследствии к развитию серьезных хронических заболеваний. Более 62% пациентов, получавших в детстве лечение по поводу злокачественного новообразования, имеют какие-либо хронические заболевания, причем эндокринные нарушения являются одними из наиболее часто выявляемых проблем (от 20 до 50%) [<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="cit9">9</xref>]. Нарушения функции и структуры щитовидной железы (ЩЖ), такие как гипотиреоз, тиреотоксикоз, узловые образования и рак, выявляются у пациентов после облучения области шеи значительно чаще, чем в общей популяции. Наиболее распространенным и изученным осложнением является гипотиреоз, распространенность которого колеблется от 19 до 66% [15, 25, 20]. Попытка разобраться в природе происходящих изменений, разработать эффективные методы профилактики привела к появлению ряда работ по более углубленному изучению патогенеза повреждающего воздействия ионизирующего облучения на ЩЖ.
